Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Milwaukee/Sullivan WI
444 AM CDT Wed Aug 13 2025
.KEY MESSAGES...
- River flood Warnings remain in effect along portions of
several Milwaukee metro area rivers and adjacent tributaries.
Stay away from flood waters and continue to heed any remaining
road closures in these areas.
- Slightly more comfortable conditions are expected behind a
cold front today, with humidity returning by the end of the
week.
&&
.SHORT TERM...
Issued 440 AM CDT Wed Aug 13 2025
Today through Thursday:
Light and variable winds and lingering surface moisture will
promote patchy ground fog through dawn, especially in the
Wisconsin River Valley.
Otherwise building high pressure over the upper Mississippi
Valley will give us a breather weatherwise today. Expect dry
conditions amid comfortable humidity with dew points in the low
60s. Highs will be in the upper 70s to low 80s. Skies will be
mostly sunny this morning, but models hint toward scattered
daytime cumulus clouds forming during the late morning into the
afternoon.
Tonight, expect mostly clear to partly cloudy skies and lows
around 60.

.LONG TERM...
Issued 440 AM CDT Wed Aug 13 2025
Thursday through Tuesday:
The lower humidity will linger through Thursday, with highs in the
lower 80s, dewpoints in the lower 60s, and light winds. Morning
clouds are possible as weak shortwave trough, probably from an MCS
that models are forecasting, rolls across central MN and northern
WI. Southern WI should remain dry.
On Friday, heat and humidity will begin to push back into
southern WI on light southerly winds as the ridge over the center
of the country leans into our area. As the high slides across the
center of the country, models are pretty consistent on
thunderstorm complexes rolling across MN and WI Friday night and
Saturday night. There is still a lot of uncertainty here, but this
will be worth keeping an eye on. Precipitable water over southern
WI during this time will be around 2 inches once again, meaning
that storms can produce heavy rain.
High pressure from the north is expected to settle over the Upper
Great Lakes Monday through Thursday. This should push 850mb
frontal boundary toward Iowa and keep any ridge rider storms to
our southwest, but there is a chance that the frontal boundary
would stall too close to us, at least for Monday and Tuesday.

.AVIATION...
Issued 430 AM CDT Wed Aug 13 2025
Expect some patchy morning fog over inland areas of southern WI,
especially in the Wisconsin River Valley. This fog may be dense
at times. Fog will dissipate after dawn leading to mostly VFR
conditions today. Some daytime cu with bases around 5000 feet
may form this afternoon along a weak lake breeze boundary.
Winds will be light and variable this morning before dawn, and
light and northwesterly between dawn and noon. Light
northwesterly winds will continue inland this afternoon, while
areas along the lakeshore will see a switch to northeasterly as
a lake breeze circulation becomes established.

.MARINE...
Issued 423 AM CDT Wed Aug 13 2025
Light north winds will continue this morning as a cold front moves
southeast of Lake Michigan. High pressure is then expected to
move into the Upper Mississippi River Valley this afternoon and
slowly move east over the Great Lakes Region through Friday.
Light to moderate north winds will continue today, becoming more
northeasterly tonight. Northeast winds will then linger into
Friday morning before becoming southeasterly warm advection
returns to the region.

.HYDROLOGY...
Issued 440 AM CDT Mon Aug 12 2025
Flood Warnings remain in effect along portions of several
Milwaukee metro area rivers and their adjacent tributaries, in
the wake of the flooding in southeastern Wisconsin this past
weekend. The Fox River in Waukesha continues to slowly decrease,
and will drop from moderate to minor flood stage some time this
morning. The Menominee River at Menominee Falls remains steady
around 7.70 feet. The Milwaukee River at Cedarburg and the
Cedar Creek at Cedarburg looks to have crested and will continue
to slowly trend downward through minor flood stage this week.
The Fox River at New Munster is forecast to reach minor flood
stage later this week, and is being monitored for a River Flood
Watch.
The ponding of water in areas immediately near each river
segment will remain possible until each can fall below flood
stage by later this week. Continue to heed any road closures in
all impacted areas until river stages recede further and Flood
Warnings are allowed to expire.
